Post-doc Position UCLouvain

Within the Earth & Life Institute of the UCL (www.uclouvain.be), we are looking for a highly motivated candidate to take up a Postdoc position. The position is available within the project « Soil organic matter dynamics and GHG fluxes: linking process understanding to regional scale carbon mass-balances ». This is a collaborative project between the Research Centre for Earth & climate and the Department of Environmental Sciences. The candidate will work in close collaboration with three recently started PhD students.

The candidate will explore how integrated modelling of soil system processes in combination with new hydro-geophysical estimates and continuous measurements of respiration and trace gases can improve our understanding of soil organic matter dynamics at spatial relevant scales.

Tasks

  • Set-up and run a spatially explicit soil system model (including hydrology, geomorphic processes and carbon turnover) to better understand the linkages between small scale processes and regional scale mass-balances;
  • Perform sensitivity and uncertainty analysis to guide field experiments and regional scale monitoring programs.

Requirements

  • PhD in environmental modelling, earth sciences, or related topics
  • Have published at least 3 papers in ISI indexed international journals;
  • High level of computer programming skills and familiarity with numerical modelling in geo-sciences (hydrology, geostatistics and/or geomorphology)
  • Experience in merging model results with in-situ and remotely sensed data;
  • English language proficiency;
  • Possess good social and communication skills.

Interested candidates should send a CV and motivation letter before 31st of January by e-mail to Kristof Van Oost, Marnik Vanclooster and Bas van Wesemael. (kristof.vanoost@uclouvain.be (Bas.vanwesemael@uclouvain.be, marnik.vanclooster@uclouvain.be). Feel free to contact us for specific questions prior to submitting your application.
